Using Free Tax Preparation Software
from:A lot has changed in the last decade or two when it comes to the act of filing your taxes. In the past, you would need to pick up your relevant forms from your local library. If you were doing your taxes yourself, you would toil away with the forms, your information, and a calculator until you completed them. Then you would have to mail them out in time of the due date. If you weren't doing your taxes yourself, then you would have to pay a lot of money to a tax preparation company so that can do it for you. While some things don't change, you can still do it all in these ways, there are new and better methods for filing your tax returns. Since the invention of the personal home computer and the invention of the internet, things have been getting a lot easier to handle. Convenience has taken over and now most people have thrown the regular pen and paper tax filing to the wayside. Now, when people do their taxes themselves, they use software that can help them with the project. This software makes things a lot easier. Even better, there is now free tax preparation software out there to make the deal even sweeter. There is now very little reason to go to a traditional tax preparers anymore, and filling out the paper forms is becoming obsolete. Instead, people are using free tax preparation software in droves.
There are many ways that you can get free tax preparation software for yourself. Since software for this purpose has gotten so popular, many companies have promotions every year around tax time. They will usually give you a standard version of their tax preparation software for free, and you would only need to pay for the super hyped up special edition, which isn't even necessary. Then you can use the free tax preparation software to do your taxes with. It really is just that easy. The best thing is that the software does all of the calculations for you. All you really need to do is enter in some numbers from your W2s and other things that you have on hand, and then it will do all of the calculations. This is a really big advantage from doing it yourself.
There is one thing that you need to know about free tax preparation software, though. Usually it's only the preparation that is free. For filing your state and federal tax returns, especially electronically, you will likely pay some money. Still, it is cheaper than hiring someone to do it for you.
